Bill Roper and "Champions Online" delay

[:1]First of all, it seems a little weird and not a little bitter tasting to see Bill Roper making development decisions about another game so soon after the fiasco of Flagship Studios.

Currently he is working on the MMO "Champions Online" and had this to say about its latest release date delay:

It is critically important for an MMO to be as good as it possibly can be at launch. Through our constant dialogue with our vocal and supportive community of beta testers, we quickly realized that in order to implement certain features that we all considered important the development of Champions Online would require more time. So that's what we're going to give it. Cryptic has a proven track record of releasing solid games and we want to maintain that with Champions Online.

What a pity he didn't take this approach with Hellgate: London. His attitude about the state of the game post release still beggars belief.|||They wanted to take that approach with Hellgate but they couldn't keep getting the money and had to launch, ready or not. Cryptic's in a better position since they're an established company and have all that City of Heroes money to keep themselves going.

Of course Roper's lies pre-release are still inexcusable, though he wasn't alone in telling porkies. I still have no idea why Cryptic went ahead and hired him though. His only game release in a long time was a failure that destroyed his company and his reputation. Cryptic could have found someone to fill that role without the baggage, methinks.|||Quote:

Possibly. Would they have had the creative talent?

A lot of people blame Roper as if he intended to make HG:L fail. I disagree with this line of thinking. I think he got in way over his head and the big fish ate his lunch.|||Quote:

What talent?

Uhh, I mean, sure, there's plenty of very talented individuals out there. Some would likely even have experience relevant to superhero-type games, or at least experience with a successful MMO.

If he was the best applicant for the job that's really kind of sad.|||I refuse to have a battle of wits with an unarmed person.|||Quote:

That line works better when you're winning.

But thanks for reminding me why I put you on my ignore list in the first place. |||Quote:

Please do.

The "Bill Roper is teh ebul" crap was lame a year ago and it is sickening now. I feel the morons that spew that crap contributed more to the demise of HG:L than Roper.

You have made your bed, now, sleep in it.
