Party system

How does this system work anyway... cos i think i get more exp and better stuff but i take all items that are on the ground,does that mean that my party members wont get anything?|||All drops you see are yours. Each person gets their own drops that others cant take.|||how does the exp if your in a party, but you fight solo you get more exp? or you have to have your party members near?
