How is HGL?

It's been a while since the game came out. But most of the reviews see the game as lacking...

But I'm still intrigued by HGL and want to ask the community what they think of the current state of the game. Is it worth it? (the last it being time/money)

And I know I'm going to get biased results from the fan-base. But thats sorta what I'm looking for, I feel like I know everything wrong with the game from the reviewers.. but how much is fixed, and what are the good points the game offers?

TIA!|||Well I have been playing it on and of since it came out.

When it came out it was fun but a dissaster with the bug amount.

But imo they have been working well to fix the bugs, and continue to bring light to the game.

As long as you like a fast pased game with alot of item drops (d2 fps?), it is a great game.

The challenge is great in hardcore elite.

So if you got the stamina to play a game that has some bugs, go for it!

game > bugs (they usualy fix the bugs kinda fast)|||It's worth a go I say! Bought it on release date in UK and started off in Single Player to understand the mechanics of the game. Took it online to see what the bonuses are. Grown to love it and last week I bought a subscription for three months. I love my cube!

It does require a time investment but isn't that the idea of a MMORPG? I don't find that I'm grinding as I'm having fun bashing the monsters in.

The exploration, item collecting, testing, modifying, skills, quests, character classes, guns, big guns (or swords), debris flying all over the place, lots LOTS of zombies to kill, your first Hellgate and the first ever time you meet Shulgoth! On top of that nobody will treat you like an idiot if you ask newbie questions.

New content been added and constant patches to improve and add new features to the game have got me hooked.

If you like the idea of it I don't think you will be disappointed. The demo does not do the game justice but if you partially enjoyed that they I'd say go and buy it.|||Started off shaky but it's alot of fun now, and we only have more to look forward to.|||The demo is accurate enough. After the first act, you've seen 75% of the game's content.

Since it's one forth a game, I'd suggest waiting until it costs $12.50. Or maybe give it a year to see if they increase its value.

You know how they used to use palette swaps in old RPGs? Hellgate has swaps, but hardly ever uses them. And doesn't change its encounter tables much.

That grey zombie you see in the first area of the game is the same as the grey zombie you'll see in every area of the game, right up to the very end.

If it was World of Warcraft, they would have taken the effort to give the grey zombie a green mohawk and a red racing stripe or something.|||Granted, the content for non-subscribers is rather unsubstantial, and all the areas begin to look severely alike, but it's still an entertaining game to play nevertheless.

Though my "love" for the game likely stems from my obsession of System Shock 2, and any game that incorporates RPG elements into a FPS and allows any form of cooperative play.

I can't imagine the game is getting any worse, though. They're adding additional content, which is all we can really ask for. I, too, wish I got more of the game out of the box, though.|||I would wait until at least the shared stash / mail system is in. You should really wait till the AH system is in too as that is going to add so much more depth to this game, for me hopefully its saving grace.

Anyone have any idea when the AH is going to be added? At this point I wouldn't even bet a dollar that we will see it before May...|||What's AH?|||Quote:

Auction House|||Hectic, for the most part, and amusing at the same time. I find it very attractive. I have a non-subscribe account atm, although I am contemplating subscribe account as I most likely will want to play Hardcore (smaller community equals more fun). But first I'll give this game a go.

Can;t say much about monster variety yet, but I have a level 10 Blademaster, and I am having a ball, really. Smashing things is just fun. I'm not much for serious MMO-work anymore after 6 years of DII, im just in it for the quick and messy monster bashing :D. Obviuosly, when playing a Blademaster there is no FPS-element. Blademasters are seriously non-fps, and are just hack-and-slash monsters (like Templars)
