[:1]Hi,
I have a couple questions regarding weapon damage in HGL:
1) Is there a difference between "Attack strength" and "Damage".
I noticed that mods can have for instance "adds X% toxic damage" or "adds X toxic attack strength". Would these both just add toxic damage or is the one damage and the other something like an ability to overcome a monster's resistance to the toxic.
2) This infers another question: Does a "adds X ... attack strength" mod do anything for a weapon that does not already do damage of the ... kind? (e.g. a toxic attack strength mod in a fire based weapon)
3) Shields have a damage value on them (at least when playing as a Blademaster, dunno about the other classes). How does this damage value affect you, if at all, when the shield is not used as a weapon but only as a shield?
4) With area of effect weapons such as the surgecasters (electricity fields) and grenade launchers, how do damage mods and auras affect damage. Does the damage get added onto the entire field, just the projectile (making it necessary to hit the target itself rather than the ground around it to get the added benefits) or does the damage mod or aura do nothing?
Thanks for any and all help
Pimothy|||1) Attack strength is related to the chance to inflict the associated status effect - in the case of fire, the chance to ignite your target. I believe it's compared to the defense of the target and that modifies your chance to set them alight.
X% Y damage simply adds more damage to the weapon.
2) If you're not doing damage of the type you have an increased attack strength for, no it won't help.
It might if you're dual wielding and you have the increased attack strength on your right hand gun with the corresponding damage on the left. But I'm not sure if that's the case.
3) If you're not hitting things with the shield, the damage number is irrelevant.
4) Damage mods (not sure about auras) affect both the initial damage from any impact, plus the damage over time. Or at least the numbers on the weapons will change accordingly.
Either way, unless you have a better mod to put in the slot that offers some other good bonus, it'd be worth putting a damage increasing mod in your weapon. More damage is always good!|||Thanks very very much!!! Makes it all a bit clearer now. Must say I would've appreciated these things being in the game booklet...

Lol! I've been running around for ages with the a surgecaster weapon with poison and ignite attack strength mods in it. Oops.
Thanks very much Mythor
