Ok everyone!
HellgateDigger.com is now open for first public testing and we are wanting you to go test it out. This is the latest Community Driven project here at Hellgate IncGamers and with your unput this could be a very useful resource. We have started things off with a few bits and pieces but it needs the community to help out.
This complete database for the game will grow over time and we have worked hard at making the information input as complete as possible including shots and user comments as well as all the stats you would expect to find in a DB.
If you have a user account on the wiki, site or forums already you just need to login with that, it;s all the same login. Please also leave us your feedback in this thread!
Enjoy!|||Why HGL Database and/or the wiki?|||I like the idea and it seems very nice DB but maybe I can be wrong but it seems for me too complicated to add let's say an item in the DB.
There is so many things to fill out just for one single item? Can this be not so complicated, I mean can a person just add a screenshot and wrote some little info about it, and not to fill, push and choose those many many options to add an item? |||Quote:

The database isn't complicated, the game is
If we want a database where it is possible to find items based on any stat, whatsoever, we need to have the data manually put in, as there is no scraper atm. It is not possible to make a "damage" search on screenshots, as that data is just pixels.
I assume you can appreciate the brainpain we have had to get around to all these stats and variables that Flagship has made, to make an effective and (relatively) simple database.

Why HGL Database and/or the wiki?
"Why the HGL Database and the wiki?"
Very easy. The wiki is the main information source for all general information. Needed to find out information on Quests, NPCs, story, what the game terms mean and everything related. The database is a quick guide to some of the item stats, and related things, where numbers are the most important thing. It is basically a quick reference, with appropriate links to the Wiki for the full info.
"Why the HGL Database or the wiki?"
Very odd question. A good answer is that you might want to use the HellgateWiki or the HellgateDigger if you need any help while playing. You might not personally need any help, whatsoever because you are so pro, but us mortal gamers sure can use a hand from the community. If you are so pro that you don't need any external help, the rest of the community will rather appreciate if you helped us out |||Quote:

Heh, that's not what I meant. I was wondering if HGLDigger is suppose to be a replacement for the wiki; and now that it's made clear it's to supplement the wiki, I am wondering why add an extra layer to the onion. Can't either one of them (digger/wiki) handle both tasks?|||A good example is WoW. There are databases as well as unofficial wikis. To some extent is is a manner of preference. Some people prefer the Wiki for its flexibility and more "all inclusive information", and some like a database, because they don't like wikis, or like easy way to comment, adding screenshots, etc. One of the other reasons is that the Wiki won't be easy to update on lots of small articles, like items (with all Special Attribute combinations, it will be thousands), which a database will handle nicely, while the database won't be good at handling big pieces of information, such as trivia or development history.
If you mainly like one of them, feel free to try out both, or just keep to the one.
Right now, the database is just up for testing, so it isn't what information source it will be, but the wiki still has some details to fix, such as templates, boilerplates and help pages (the wiki is really good at quests, items, npcs etc though)..|||Great idea! A searchable database.
Let's hope that enough people are willing to input their leet loot's stats (I sure am).
It does have an option to specify any variability in stats, right?|||Quote:

Yes, that is the advantage compared to the wiki, where it would be too cumbersome. Just make sure to tell us if there is any Affixes (Special Attributes) that we need to add (if you could comment on the orange ones, on what qualities they appear in, that will be a great help, as well as what stats and lvls, for future versions). There are 331 there so far, but a few are missing quality. The percentage/health/crit added is input with the weapon rather than the affix, as the stat varies even with the same Affix.
If you think we should change the name, or change anything, please give us feedback!|||Looks nice. Adding a new item is indeed a bit slow process
Tried a little and few notifications for adding item:
- Item quality misses unique and ordering is wrong
- Item usable for subscriber only check box or similar is missing
Other:
- No weapons in items drop down menu|||Quote:

Slow, but the long-term usefulness is worth it.
Anyhow:
I tried to input my Grimhyde evoker armor, but am looking for a spot to write down that it has the "decreases power cost of evoker skills by 4%" inherent attribute. Should there be an 'inherent attribute' box somewhere, or does each base grey item have the same inherent attributes? In that case, the inherent attribute box only needs to get filled once at base item level.
Also, shouldn't there be a patch version (SP/MP + ver. number) in case of a sudden shift in attributes, like we had with the 0.6 MP patch, which lowered stat feeds? Should e.g. patch 0.5 and patch 0.6 items be listed as separate items?
Sorry for the questions. I'm not a DB expert, so I'm not sure what would be the best way to tackle these item registration details...
Edit: I also noticed that a mod's item level determines the level range as *
Min item level = Mod level - 8
Max item level = Mod level + 6
Saves filling in two more boxes when submitting a mod into the database.
*: Based on empirical (in the order of several tens of samples) evidence.
Edit edit: On a mod-related note: I haven't encountered any ultra-low Ilvl mods...
