Hey guys,
Ive been reading the forums and played the demo and decided to buy the game but I have a few questions Id appreciate some help on:
1.) If I buy a used game on eBay, Amazon, etc., will I be able to create a new account with my own name? In specific, how does the account creation process work, can I create a new account with the same CD key?
I have no desire to play in single player. I just want to play the free multiplayer version and see if I like it. Im worried that if I buy a used version I will be stuck with some strange account name thats been registered to an unknown email address. If the in-game communication is like DiabloII, Ill be forced to use it. Worse case scenario is if they were caught cheating and banned making multiplayer unaccessable. I tried to contact Flagship but I cannot even view their forums without first having an account. Not very user friendly
2.) How does the in-game communication work?
3.) Are there any mature clans out there and does Hellgate support clans?
Thanks in advance for your help!|||1. You won't be able to create an account with it unless the person you buy it from never registered for an account for whatever reason. A fairly risky proposition over ebay, in other words.
If you do manage to find one that is either unopened or the key was not used to create a multiplayer account, you'll be fine. Otherwise you'd have to take over the person's account which would likely be against Flagship's TOS.
In any event, I doubt they'd be encouraging you to buy a copy secondhand, especially if you're only going to play the free multiplayer version - they lose money that way.
2. You can send whispers/tells (text) to anyone at any time in any place. You can send text to party members, or guild members. You can send text to people in the same instance of town as you, in the same global chat channel as you, in the same newbie chat channel as you, in the same trade channel as you or in the same LFG channel as you.
You can use Voice Chat, which I think only works if you have xfire installed and running and set up in-game. I've not tried using it so I don't know for sure how it works. It may work without xfire, but since xfire works across all kinds of other games and lets you make free voice calls to your friends, it could be worth getting regardless, depending on how you're set up in that regard already.
3. Yes, you can set up guilds in-game.
Define "mature"? ;) There's plenty who claim to be mature, whether they meet your definition of the word is only something you could judge. Try the Guilds Forum here on IncGamers?|||Quote:

I may buy a subscription in the future, depends on the game.
I hear that the quests are kind of so-so. In the demo all the NPC had text over there heads during the quest. Did they at least dub in voices for the real game? There were voices in D2, I can't imagine them leaving it as text only, it seems incomplete.
When I say mature, I mean guys you can trust with items to not steal, do not call you noob when everyone needs to learn, do not flame in forums, can write in complete sentences, will not cheat for any reason, etc. Mostly, I mean guys with jobs, wifes, kids, etc. However, I have run across some very mature teenagers I enjoy playing with. Not that it is a bad thing, but it helps to play with like minded people in the same time zone, work, etc. The me of today would not enjoy playing with the me at 18, I mature very slowly...
Thanks for you help|||Most of the NPCs only have hello/goodbye voiceovers, not quest stuff. I think it's mostly only Murmur and a couple other NPCs later in the game that talk much.
The reason given during development was that it would make it a lot easier (and presumably cheaper) when it came to translating it to different languages, plus it would make it much easier (and cheaper) to add new quests to any existing NPC any time they wanted.
Given some of the decidedly dodgy voicework in certain parts, I think it might actually be for the best. ;)
Once you've played through the quests a couple times, you probably wouldn't bother listening to them again anyway. I know I never listened to the D2 quest NPCs more than once or twice each.
The text and storyline is fairly run of the mill and the quest objectives for much of the game tend to be very much in the tradition of, "Go here and kill X monsters then come back to me so I can tell you to kill Y monsters".
There are exceptions though. Some of the best quests are right near the end, which is an unfortunate design decision, since a lot of people would give up long before then. But you're unlikely to have seen some of it in any other RPG you've played. It's worth getting there if you can persevere... |||Quote:

I agree with you on the voices, but I did enjoy listening to Gheed every once in a while...
I just bought the game, a new version with shipping and handling for $30. Not a bad deal but I have to wait a week for it to get here. Since I have only played the demo, do you (or anyone) mind telling me how trading in multiplayer works. Can you trade items like you can in Diablo2?
I also understand the inventory stash is quite small but you get like 24 characters per account. Is the inventory shared? Does that mean you can transfer items from one character to another without fear of losing them?
I remember in Diablo 2 trying to mule items from one character to another and then the game drops. I have lost more in that game than I have found...
The reason I ask is that I do not know anyone that plays and I know finding someone you can trust in these type games is very rare. Is it possible to create a password protected room, drop the item, leave the game, and enter with another character or do you have to hand it to someone you trust? Or is any of this even necessary with a shared stash?
Thank again!|||Trading works as it does in D2, yes. You find the person in a town and you get a window with two panes in it, you put your stuff in one side, they put their stuff in the other, then you each have to confirm.
Next patch you'll be able to mail items between characters, assuming no problems are discovered in testing.
The stash is not that small, you can fit quite a lot of items in there, so long as you don't pointlessly hoard things. There's no shared stash right now but it is supposed to be coming in the next major patch within the next 3-ish months. But bear in mind it was supposed to be in at launch too, so it might not make it...
Only reliable way to transfer items between characters at the moment is to have a friend hold it for you from one character and give it to your other. Or just stash it and wait for the mailing system to be added.
You can't create password protected rooms, as the game doesn't work like D2 in that respect, everyone is in the same world all the time. (The non-town areas are all instanced, but you just walk through a portal to get to them, you don't say you want to start an instance of X named Y.)
And it wouldn't work in any event, since you can't drop items. And if you could it still wouldn't work, since the only people who can see items belonging to you on the ground is you!
